Welcome to Bend River Farms and our family of
Komondors. The Komondor (plural is Komondorok) is a big, muscular dog with
plenty of bone and substance, covered with an unusually heavy, white
corded coat which resembles an old-fashioned string mop. Puppies are white
and fluffy and tend to form cords at about 3 to 4 years of age. They are
very strong and agile for their size.
A hardy, healthy dog, they can
tolerate changing temperatures.
The Komondor is a natural herd guard: they are born with a strong natutal
instinct to protect the flock, and will vigorously defend their herd . This also makes them natural guard
dogs, and they will take up this
role without any special training. This has earned then the title of
"king of the working dogs". While one
of the largest breeds of dogs, they are extremely affectionate and family
oriented when raised with the family. They are very good with familiar
children and will tend to protect them and their family.
Large breed dogs like Komondors are
prone to hip
dysplasia: always check with your breeder for evidence and
certification that their dogs do not have this potentially crippling
condition.
